Modern meaning
Bats are somewhat problematic in logo design because of their myriad of possible associations, both positive and negative.
In Western cultures it is largely viewed negatively - creatures of the night and birds of Satan. Their image was further damaged when the vampire myth entered Western literature.
In modern times the bat was rescued to some extent when Batman made bat symbols cool, but it is still predominantly seen negatively. Not in China though. The Chinese associate bats with happiness!
